Film 149 in the "1001 Films to See Before You Die" challenge is 1929's "Man With the Movie Camera". This Russian documentary looks at life in Kiev, Kharkov, Moscow and Odessa. Good God, this was boring. Nothing happened. Was something suppose to happen? I don't know! Everything was in Russian and not subtitled, nothing made any sense and did I mention that this film is boring? Watching paint dry would be better than watching this film! Why are we shown a man killing himself by getting hit with a train? Why are we watching a woman getting dressed? Why does this film exist? Was it to show life in Russia? Was it made to put people to sleep? So many questions and no one has the answers to them! If I have learnt anything from this challenge is that silent films with no plot explanations aren't fun to watch. The only exception to this was 1922's "Nosferatu" where I spent most of the film making up dialogue. In 1923, director Dziga Vertov had this to say about the film, "I am kino-eye, I am a mechanical eye, I, a machine, show you the world as only I can see it." I have no idea what that means. Fun Fact of the Film - The 24-hour day depicted in the movie was filmed over a period of three years. This film is so boring and dulll that I can't even recommend this to anyone unless you really have problems trying to fall asleep at nights. If you have seen this film then let me know what you thought of it in the comments. Here is what I had to say while watching 1929's "Man with the Movie Camera"

Reading
There's a man with a camera stood on top of a camera
It's an empty cinema
Better prepare for tonight's screening
Are all these seats haunted?
It's a cinema with a live orchestra
Lots of random shots of random things
There's a man sleeping on the street
Here we have a bunch of babies
What is meant to be happening?
Also, where the hell are we? Wikipedia says we're somewhere in Soviet Russia

Empty Street
Telephone
Mill
Ford
Church Tower
Wheel of a car
Back to the Mill
Telephone
Random car driving down a street
The man with his camera has just got into a car
PIGEONS!!!!!
Looks like someone wants to be hit by a train
And he's dead
Now to watch a woman get dressed
Random homeless man scratching his armpits before going back to sleep
Better clean those train tracks
